Greetings from Spillian in the Catskills.
We’re on the edge of spring in the mountains!
As I write this, we’re enjoying 40+ degree temperatures, and it’s been one of the mildest Catskill winters on record. In just a few weeks, the the skiers will begin melting away, and the streams will be running pure and clear with snow melt. Hikers will be shedding their winter layers, the robins and sparrows will be building nests, and the trees will turn heavy with buds.
To celebrate, we’re having our 6th annual Catskills Trout Tales weekend at Spillian, and you’re invited as our complimentary guest, to partake in the food, drink and activities all around Spring and the opening of Trout Fishing Season!
As a travel and adventure writer, we’re holding 4 FAM slots on a first come/first serve basis for this magical weekend. Whether you’re a beginner looking to find out more about fly fishing Catskill streams, or you’re one of the “charmed circle” of fly fishermen, join us for Trout Tales at Spillian, our sixth annual celebration of all things trout.
A superb opportunity to dive deep into the streams and forests of the Catskills, its evocative stories, and its extraordinary cuisine, with lodging at the historic Spillian estate, and the event that birthed a regional celebration of fly-fishing, Catskills Trout Tales.
We will wander the streams with one of the Catskills’ best licensed fly fishing guides, Esopus Creel, celebrate local flavor, and in the spirit of the 19th Century fishing lodges, gather on Saturday evening for the now-famous trout feast and story telling contest. Competition is brilliant and fierce, with the best tall fishing tales you’ll hear (or tell!) anywhere. Winner gets bragging rights for a year, and the chance to display the highly-coveted silly porcelain trout at your home or workplace, with the promise to come back to defend your title the next round…
